On October 30th in Brooklyn, NY Apple hosted an event to provide updates on the company and to unveil new products. There were a lot of announcements made during the 90-minute presentation, but the two most prominent were the introduction of a new MacBook Air and a new iPad Pro. Let’s dive in and learn more about the new products and how Springboard can help get them.

A Breath of Fresh Air

The first significant product Apple introduced was the new MacBook Air. With a brand new Retina Display, that quadruples the resolution of the previous model with over 4 million pixels and 48% sharper color, this is an impressive upgrade for the stalwart MacBook Air. The new model also has 25% louder speakers and 2x more bass. Get ready for some serious sound.

Another brand new feature is a touch ID. The touch ID allows users to unlock their laptop, use Apple Pay, and can also be used with third-party apps. The new touch ID is located on the keyboard in the top right corner. The keyboard itself also got an upgrade with the latest butterfly technology and now has 4x more stable keys. Underneath the keyboard is a new trackpad with 20% larger surface area.

From a technical standpoint, the new MacBook Air has 16GB of memory and 1.5TB of SSD Storage. It’s equipped with the eight-generation Intel Core i5 processor, and also bolsters an impressive 12-hour battery life! Standing at 13.3” tall and 15.6 mm thin, and only weighing 2.75 lbs, the MacBook Air is the most portable notebook yet. It is also the first Apple laptop made with 100% recycled aluminum, a first for Apple’s laptop line. Available starting November 7th, the new Air will be priced at $1,199 and will come in three colors; gold, silver and space gray.

At first glance the most significant change from the new iPad is that it no longer possesses a home button, mirroring the latest version of the iPhone allowing for a more intuitive and efficient way of maneuvering around your iPad, while also taking advantage of the newest Face ID technology. Now with just a glance you can unlock your iPad, log into apps and make purchases, all with the safety of knowing you are utilizing the most secure facial authentication in both a tablet and computer.  With a new Liquid Retina Display that goes from edge to edge, the new iPad Pro packs Promotion Technology with industry-leading color accuracy that makes for the highest quality picture yet still feel very responsive.

Available in two different sizes, 11-inch and 12.9-inch, the new iPad Pro is also equipped with an A12X Bionic Chip, the smartest and most powerful chip Apple has ever made. With this chip, the iPad will be able to run even more powerful programs than ever before, such as Adobe’s Photoshop. The chip also boasts 2x more powerful graphics, that make the iPad the ideal machine for video games and augmented reality. Another new feature is the iPad Pro now has USB-C ports that allow for connection accessories and even allows you to charge an iPhone. Even with the bigger screens the iPad still manages to be the thinnest iPad ever and weighs only just over a pound. The iPad also has improved battery life with up to 10-hour battery life.

Along with updates to the iPad Pro, Apple revamped the already-incredible Apple Pencil. With just a double touch, users can quickly switch between brushes or eraser for an uninterrupted experience. Another new feature is the Pencil will now magnetically attach to the iPad for easy pairing, accessing and, most importantly charging.
